A brief introduction on Firefly is that it started operation 8 years ago, from a fleet of 3 aircraft which have now grown into total of 17 aircraft. With the introduction of new route recently from Malacca to Pekanbaru (Indonesia), Firefly promises to be an exciting player in the regional market. It sees itself as hybrid carrier, which can be defined as innovative, customer-driven airline with its operations like full service carrier and at the same time maintaining competitive fares.
The routes it flies to:
I took the Firefly flight departing from Singapore Changi Airport, Terminal 2 to Kuantan Airport. The whole journey took me exactly 1 hour. As Firefly operates from ATR 72-500 series aircraft type, the aircraft is not accessible by aero-bridge.
In-flight Magazine: 9/10
Well done Firefly! The in-flight magazine was filled with interesting information from its operating fleet to its staff personal stories to travel destinations. And the best part is they introduce places that they do not fly to as well, capturing a wider audience and with so many contests and beautiful pictures of round the world, I got to give thumbs up to them! It’s certainly make it to my top 5 airline in-flight magazines!
Overall, for both sector of my flight, I have got to compliment that the stewardess and captain have clear pronunciation of English. However, only demerit point lies in that broadcast made was not loud.
Seat Comfort Level: 8/10
Being a hybrid carrier, the seat pinch is very comfortable. The seat cushion is soft and makes one want to fall asleep. Being an ATR aircraft type and a configuration of 2-2, I couldn’t have expect anymore better , well done!
The leather seats make it looks luxury and better than other ATR seats on other carrier.
Cleanliness on Board: 7/10
Thou there were some peanuts left behind by previous customer on my seat, I couldn’t have fault them as it was a quick turnover while at Kuantan Airport in order to ensure its leaves on time. Overall, floor was clean, only perhaps the interior of the over-cabin area has it painting peeled off.
Service/ Drinks: 9/10
Being an hour flight duration, there was a choice of muffins or peanuts together with either apple juice or soya bean to choose from. It was indeed a refreshing light snack I had on board. Quench our thirst!
In terms of Pax Load Factor, I would say the route from SIN to Kuantan is around 65%. When I flew back from Kuantan to SIN on Sunday, I could see better load factor of around 80% since I guessed mostly Malaysians returning to Singapore for work. After all, the fares are comparable and is an hour ride away only!
Firefly has its own holiday programs and it certainly looks enticing to consider booking with them for your next Malaysia short getaway. However, being in the travel trade industry, the fares are all lead-in price. But still, its worth to consider as one need not book flights and hotels individually saving up effort and money if you select the right package.
With that, it was an enjoyable experience to fly with Firefly! Definitely one of the airline I would consider with its reliable timing.
