Ryan Air Flight Review

Yes, you heard it right, Ryan Air, Irish based low-cost airline, one of the first if not the first that introduce the art of flying budget. If you are not familiar with Ryan Air, it is similar to AirAsia in the Asian context.

With so many aircraft as part of its fleet and presence felt strongly in most parts of Europe, it is not strange that when one travels around in Europe, you may chanced upon Ryan Air. Here is a quick summary of my personal experience flying with this wonderful carrier. I took Ryan Air twice on my 34 days journey across Europe, you can read more here.  This review will be based on the flight from Berlin (Germany) to Riga (Latvia).

Being budget airline, there were a lot of add on items that one could do. After I had completed my booking on their website, I received many emails from them informing of extra add on that I could have for my coming flight. At first, it maybe quite interesting to take a look and see what they offer. However, as the days goes by, it becomes more of like a spam email after receiving about hotel, car rental, express lane clearance as optional add on. Certainly, one can unsubscribe if you are tired of receiving such during your travel.

Ryan Air practiced systematic boarding in which if you bought the extra such as “skip the queue”,  one can easily skip the long queue of checking the boarding passes at the gate. During check-in, it was mostly self service. Do note that you can download the Ryan Air application easily to do self check-in and the boarding pass will be shown on your mobile. This is the best and most convenient method when flying with Ryan Air. Hassle free when it comes to immigration clearance and boarding. Otherwise, you may have to pay more to check-in when arrive at the airport.

The seat pitch is rather wide, huge leg space in my opinion for a budget carrier. Service staff are friendly. Thou I must mention that the safety flight board is on the back of every seat instead of the usual paper format located at the seat pocket.

Should you be travelling together as a couple or group, if you did not add on the selection of seat which is chargeable, they will assign you seats far away from each other. It does not matter at all thou as many sit away from their partner/friends during the flight as I observed. Overall the flight was pleasant and most importantly, it depart on time.
