Austria is one of the hidden gems in Europe, often over shadowed by their counterparts France, Switzerland, Czech Republic. Do you know? In fact, Austria are blessed with beautiful nature such as the Hallstatt Lakes, the high Alps in Austria that opens up to reveal a fascinating mountain world and beautiful towns.
If you are running short of time to visit the many awesome sights in Austria, the city that definitely got to be on your holiday itinerary is Salzburg! Here is a quick guide on the things to do in SALZBURG within 24 hours!
The Salzburg card comes in handy if you are looking to cover the major must visit tourist attractions. Simply purchase it, show it at designated tourist attractions and off you go.
Places to purchase:
Hotels– In fact, the hotel that I was staying in does have a sign indicating they sells the Salzburg card.
Airport, Train Station– If you are arriving into Salzburg by air, land transport via train, simply purchase this card at the station.
Tourist Information Center– Within the city, one of my preferred location to purchase this Salzburg card is from the tourist center located at No. 5 Mozartplatz not far from Salzburg Cathedral. This is also an ideal location to kick start your adventure to explore the sight & sounds of Salzburg city as it is located within the historic district with many tourist attractions nearby.
Why purchase Salzburg card?
This card entitles one to free entry to all attractions and museums in the city. Salzburg is known for their museums and you will be lost for choice in deciding which is the best to visit. With this card, you can freely walk into these museums without the hassle of paying at each different attractions. Simply write down the date on the back of the card to have it activated and flash it to the counter staff to gain entry. Did I mention that one can save time queuing up to purchase the admission tickets as well?
The Salzburg card allows free travel on public transport in the city. The trick is to always have your Salzburg card ready in your hand as it works out like your bus ticket.
Most importantly, the Salzburg card gives me huge savings on my wallet when it comes to attractions visit. For instance, a 24 hour validity of the Salzburg Card costs me as low as Euro 25 *during the non-peak season. (Do note that it costs Euro 28 during peak season from May to October end). #2: Cable Car Untersberg
If you love the nature, mountain and valley, then you should not miss out this attraction located outskirt of the city. Known as the top of Salzburg, when you step out of the cable car, the first view that caught everyone attention is the surrounding Alpine mountains.

#3: Hellbrunn Palace
Located near Morzg, a southern district of the city of Salzburg, Austria. This palace is the day residence during the summer for the Archbishop.
#4: Hohensalzburg Fortress
Known to be Central Europe largest preserved fortress, getting to it involves the riding of the oldest funicular which was built in 1892. Enter the vicinity before 11am to enjoy access to state room free of charge. The area consists of the Fortress Museum, Rainer Regiment Museum, Marionette Museum and Alm passage.
#5: Mozart Birthplace and Residence
Do note that these are located near the historical town of Salzburg. It is interesting to learn more of Mozart known to be the greatest music composers of all times.
#6: Panorama Musuem
Amazing collections from the past till present, it allows one to have a better understanding of this beautiful city Salzburg. I included this museum to my itinerary. I got to say with so many exhibits on display, pictures and materials to read in this museum, do allocate more time for this attraction.
